A mutualized industrial research institute
About IRT Jules Verne
Since March 2012 IRT Jules Verne is a mutualized industrial research institute dedicated to advanced manufacturing technologies. Based in Nantes and central to the Loire Valley Region’s economic strategies, IRT Jules Verne embraces the industrial, scientific and technological challenges that concern four strategic industries (aeronautics, shipbuilding, automotive and energy).
It aims at becoming a world reference in the field of advanced production for composite and metallic materials and hybrid structures by providing solutions to the technological challenges facing industrial segments, e.g. the design and implementation of advanced breakthrough technologies for manufacturing and production engineering.
In order to foster a cross-fertilization of ideas, IRT Jules Verne will in particular develop a shared forward-looking vision, implement shared strategic roadmaps, pool resources, and bring cross-disciplinary partners together (academics and small and medium-sized companies).
It leads activities driven by industry needs on the mid and long-term market trends. Its research program focuses three major areas of development:
- Integrated product / process design
- Innovative processes
- Adaptive and smart manufacturing systems
At a single site in Nantes, it brings together manufacturers, training facilities, private and public applied research laboratories, and prototyping and industrial demonstration resources. It focuses on strengthening the “industry-research-training” process in order to make the technological jumps that will help companies boost their competitiveness and continuity.
