Automating the manufacturing process for electrical harnesses

On 9 June 2026, IRT Jules Verne hosted Airbus, Airbus Helicopters, Alstom, Latecoere and Safran ELECTRICAL & POWER at its premises for a one-day workshop dedicated to developing an ambitious R&D project: FlexEWIS.

An ambitious automation project for cross-sector use cases

The project focuses on the automation of manufacturing and inspection processes for electrical wiring harnesses for multi-sector applications in the aerospace, rail, defence and space industries.

Drawing on the latest advances in robotic manipulation and AI, the aim is to accelerate the automation of EWIS manufacturing to improve productivity whilst ensuring quality, repeatability and traceability.

A workshop to finalise the technical programme

The day provided an opportunity to identify industry needs, prioritise the technological building blocks to be developed and outline a joint technical programme. Participants were also able to explore the technology halls at IRT Jules Verne, in particular the R&D activities focusing on robotics and cobotics, automated non-destructive testing (NDT) and AI-based fault detection.

This workshop paved the way for the next stages of preparation for a project launch planned for early 2027.
