IRT Jules Verne at the heart of the ROS community: a look back at ROSCon France 2026

From 22 to 25 June 2026, IRT Jules Verne took part in ROSCon France 2026, the leading event for the ROS robotics community.

Organised this year by ISIR (Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics), the event brought together around 170 participants at Sorbonne University. As a sponsor of the 2026 edition and a key contributor to its organisation, IRT Jules Verne reaffirms its support for the scientific and industrial ecosystem centred on ROS (Robot Operating System), an open-source platform that has become indispensable for the development of innovative, interoperable and industrially viable robotic solutions.

Our scientific contribution

IRT Jules Verne was represented on the conference’s scientific programme committee by Ludovic Delval, a ROS expert and trainer at IRT Jules Verne.

Alongside experts from Centrale Nantes, ONERA and Fraunhofer IPA, he helped to put together a challenging scientific programme, reflecting the latest advances and current challenges in open-source robotics.

This contribution illustrates IRT Jules Verne’s commitment to knowledge sharing, the development of technical communities and bridging the gap between research and industrial applications.

Teaching the basics of ROS 2

On 22 June, Ludovic Delval led an introductory workshop on ROS 2. This session provided an opportunity to explore the fundamental principles of the software environment, as well as its value for designing, integrating and developing robotic systems.

Through this session, IRT Jules Verne shared its expertise with a community comprising researchers, engineers, students and industry representatives, all united by the common goal of accelerating the adoption of open and robust technologies for robotics.

Two technical contributions led by the robotics teams

At the conference, teams from IRT Jules Verne presented research findings that clearly demonstrated the value of ROS for industrial robotics.

The first presentation focused on the launch of an open-source YASKAWA driver compatible with ROS 2 Control. This contribution aims to facilitate the integration and control of YASKAWA industrial robots in ROS 2 environments, by promoting interoperability and the reuse of software building blocks.

The second presentation focused on the development of the ROS 2 driver for XIRIS cameras. This work helps to strengthen the integration of machine vision solutions into robotic architectures, particularly for control, inspection and automation applications.

Fostering the growth of an open, industrial robotics ecosystem

Taking part in ROSCon France each year is part of the IRT Jules Verne’s ongoing efforts to promote technology transfer, skills development and the creation of robotic solutions tailored to industrial needs.

By supporting open source, sharing its experience and contributing to dialogue between research and industry stakeholders, IRT Jules Verne is pursuing its objective: to develop robotic tools that are more open, more easily integrated and more efficient for the factories of the future.
